🗣️ *Empowering Nonverbal Individuals: Communication Boards for All*
Today, I want to shed light on a crucial issue that’s close to my heart as a member of the Autism Committee. It’s about Communication Boards
🔤 Communication boards are invaluable. They consist of symbols, pictures, or words systematically arranged on a grid, enabling nonverbal individuals to express their thoughts, needs, and desires.
Users can point, gesture, or use eye-tracking technology to communicate. 👏👏I’m proud to acknowledge the work of two colleagues in County Kildare, Councillor Mark Leigh and Councillor Ciara Galvin.
They’ve championed the cause, resulting in the installation of communication boards in Kildare’s playgrounds in recent weeks. 🌟
The impact has been phenomenal. Parents bringing their children to these playgrounds have expressed their gratitude and joy at seeing these boards.
It’s made a real difference in their lives. 📣
Today, I call on local authorities across the nation to follow suit, not just in a few places but everywhere.
Let’s replicate this initiative in every corner of our country, ensuring that everyone who needs these boards can access them. 🤝
Let’s empower children and make our communities more inclusive. Together, we can make a difference. 💙
